Soldo and his gang of 6 mod mates bullied little David Gahan because he was wearing eye liner and “funny” clothes and made him cry.

And he boasts about it … lol

But these New Romantics where always carrying … lol

DM’s live performances at Barcelona and Paris are probably hard to match by any band at anytime or place.

Legend .

Such sad news. I was lucky enough to meet him a couple of times. Lovely bloke.

I know a friend of his who invited me to Stamford Bridge to see West Ham a couple of years ago. I was sat right behind Fletch.

Chelsea inevitably scored and he got up and started high-fiving everyone around him. Of course I had to leave him hanging. Afterwards I told him I was West Ham and he reassuringly put his hand on my shoulder and said "You did the right thing". Very surreal.

By all accounts sounded a nice chap.

Whilst never a huge fan, I thought all a bit gay synthy pop in the 80s, there later stuff was good. Walking in my Shoes is the nuts

He's joined that ever increasing orchestra up in the sky.

Unbelievably sad news.

Like many on here, been a fan since 81 and managed to see them quite a few times over the years. Never met him, but did see him driving down the A12 near Colchester in a BMW Z3 (must have been early 2000's). I remember the number plate being 8ONG.

Losing him and fellow Essex boy Mark Hollis within a couple of years and both being so young is very depressing.

*I assume NS has told his usual story*

I'm still numb. Imagine being a fresh faced 17 year old. Going to our price, running to the bus to get home with the latest Depeche album in your hands. Putting the needle on the record, black celebration. 4 months later and you're at Wembley arena, full of booze waiting for your heroes to come on stage. 25 concerts later, were in Amsterdam and I'm still feeling that same excitement. Last night something inside me died. You know that the weirdest thing was I went for a run, randomly plucked a t shirt off the washing line and it was my Depeche one. Two hours later one of my heroes had gone. Met him once at the Astoria, bought him a beer, chatted about football, didn't buy me one back, but that didn't matter. This man was part of a band that provided me with the soundtrack to my life, I was dumbstruck and grateful that this legend accepted a beer from me, Tony fucking Osborne. Thank you Andrew Fletcher, you were the glue that kept the greatest band ever, together. I salute you. Thank you for the music, rest in peace.

Lovely story Def.

DM were always on the edge of my 80s sphere of music.

The plinky plonky early 80s were good fun.. See You just a gorgeous song for an early teen to pull girls to.

Dipped in and mostly out of their stuff since

Love precious and enjoy the silence- but need to catch up on their back catalogue.

Where do i start?

Very sad at the news of Andrew Fletcher's death .

Never met him but been a big fan of DM since Just Can't Get Enough was released, love the darker stuff Barrel Of A Gun my favourite.

Got to see them once at Hyde Park.

Andy seems to be a top bloke, generous and caring, RIP fella!

I was watching some Talk Talk on YouTube on my evening tea break at work then got a message about Andy Fletcher when I got back on the shop floor. Saw Talk Talk live in 1986 at Bradford and it's top of my list of gigs that I'd like to experience again.

Re: DM's Andy Fletcher RIP
Not really a fan of their early poppy stuff. After Vince Clarke left they struggled and the UK pretty much dumped them.

The US and rest of Europe didn’t . Violator and Songs of Faith and Devotion are brilliant albums . Certainly in my top 20 of all time.

Wilko - Yeah I saw Talk Talk in 1986 @ Hammersmith. Easily one of the best gigs I’ve witnessed.

I would say even though nowhere near as successful, Talk Talk are just about more influential than Depeche Mode. Two absolutely incredible bands.
